This striking flag represents the eastern part of the North Sea island of Sylt – the former municipality of Sylt-Ost , which today belongs to the municipality of Sylt. It symbolically combines maritime elements with regional identity.
The flag is divided horizontally into two parts :

Above: A bright yellow , on which a stylized red sun rises with flame rays , flanked by five blue eight-pointed stars – they represent the seven districts of the former municipality of Sylt-Ost (Keitum, Archsum-Morsum, Munkmarsch, Tinnum, Rantum).

Below: A vibrant sea blue , in the center of which swims a white herring – a symbol of the fishing-dominated history and the close connection to the North Sea.
